As Real As It Gets

Bold and Thought Provoking

Some things need to be said!

Change cannot be made if we are afraid to admit that change is needed.

Inspiration

Respect means not denying people rights because of personal bias.

I do not have to beat a drum for you every day,

You do not have to take the same positions I do.

We can disagree—see things differently.

I let you be,

You give me space to be.

That is respect.

freedom

Freedom is more precious than gold.

We must all fight to eradicate oppression across the globe.

Butterfly Network USA supports those fighting to live their truth.

affirmative action

Affirmative Action must be upheld.

As long as racism exists, this safeguard must remain to ensure that people of color receive equity in spaces known to exclude them.

Income Inequality and The Wealth Gap

It is time those in power seriously address income inequality and the wealth gap.

Employers cannot simply pay employees for their labor; they must pay them an equitable wage.

The institutions that created this system of inequity must take the lead in correcting it.

“But as surely as the creation of the wealth gap required the cooperation of every aspect of the society, bridging it will require the same.”  ~ Ta-Nehisi Coates

criminal justice reform

We must continue to press our legislators to reform the criminal justice system. Rates of incarceration have increased from 200,000 in the 1970s to well over 2 million today—disproportionately affecting people of color and the poor.

Today, some prisons sit on lands once occupied by slave plantations.

Emmett Till

Emmett Louis Till, a fourteen-year-old African American teenager was abducted, brutally tortured and lynched in Mississippi in August 1955 because of a lie.

He has yet to receive justice.
